View Full Version : Marsupial lions are cool I think.

Hello friends,

My name's Bruce, but I figured I'd go by the handle of SuperCollider. I'm a nuclear physics student and I always loved that project. Also my interests include palaeontology, and writing software and then trying to find a commercial application for it.

I reference the marsupial lion in my profile. Did you know, pound for pound it had the most powerful bite of any predator?

It was smaller than the sabertooth, yet had a higher density and muscle mass. It probably died out due to climate change.

Anyway I like it. Also it was the inspiration and spiritual symbol for the martial art I do, which is based on Australian animals. Its known as FMS, which stands for Five Marsupials Style. The strange thing is one of the marsupials is actually the emu. Anyway I prefer kangaroo and wombat style.

Hopefully chat soon,

An Aussie called Bruce? Strewth!

Where abouts in Oz are you?

There are quite a few Australian members who post regularly on the boards, so maybe you have someone close by.
I mean, let's face it, an Aussie with internet connection?
Narrows it down to 5 cities, right? ;-)

I'm currently living near Margaret River in a tent, while we excavate part of a cave.

Yeah, I'm getting in character for my visit to Adelaide and Melbourne in November... I'd hate to break down any stereotypes :-)

Are you serious about the five marsupial style? I'm so fucking jaded by all the morons that turn up here (X style sucks month always brings out hordes of X's from the woodwork) that I can't actually tell a joke from the real thing anymore...

If it's not a joke then perhaps you should tell us a little more about this style.

Welcome to Bullshido.

Did you know?: The Pleistocene Marsupial Lion was possibly the most specialised marsupial carnivore ever. It has an enormous slicing cheek tooth, large stabbing incisor teeth at the front of its mouth, and a huge thumb claw. The claw may have been used to disembowel its prey, or to hold struggling animals.
