View Full Version : Looking for JuJutsu Schools in Portsmouth/Southsea UK

8/30/2007 12:49pm,
I am looking for Jujutsu or Judo clubs in the Portsmouth area of the United Kingdom. So far I have found ;

which practises Shorinji kan

which seems to teach Zen ha kenpo Ryu Jujitsu

what do you think of these two?

I am looking for a club where there is alive contact and resistance training. If anyone here could recommend any, it would be much appreciated.

Sensei Martin Rogers is a member of the British Ju Jitsu Association and is featured on their website. www.bjjagb.com

This should be all the recommendation you need - but I await the Brickbats.

Is there places to train BJJ and general MMA in and around portsmouth, any help would be appreciated

9/07/2007 5:52am,
As far as I know, there are no current BJJ schools in Portsmouth, I have heard that a MMA club was going to start up, but I am not sure if it is running at the moment.

The closest I know of is Basingstoke Vale Tudo

But that may be too far for you.

I found this list of Martial Arts clubs in Portsmouth/ Southsea,

If I find any, I'll post it here.

Not sure on the Wing Chun place, although the guy who founded it (Kevin Chan) is a brown belt in BJJ. So, small chance there might be something related to BJJ available: if you scroll down on this (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=52613&highlight=kamon) thread, there is some further discussion about Kamon.

The results of the Bristol Open back in March (not August) mention a David Cooper (http://www.bjj.eu.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=580&Itemid=27) coming 2nd in the Super-Feather category: his club is listed simply as 'Portsmouth'. That would indicate there is some kind of BJJ instruction in the area, or at least something closely related.

Depending on how far you'd be willing and able to travel, there's a good BJJ class in Brighton (http://www.marciogomes-gbjj.co.uk/index-find-us.php) under black belt Marcio Gomes, who I can personally recommend having trained with him a couple of times.

Alternately, you could the Bulldog Gym in Bournemouth, which apparently has MMA (http://www.bulldognetwork.co.uk/mma.htm). I've also read that another BJJ black belt, Alex de Souza, teaches there - not seeing the relevant listing, except for this old website (http://www.desouza.tv/englishindex.htm) with out-of-date times and prices (according to this (http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/m_2039243/tm.htm) link, anyway).

Also, Fault - I noticed you posted a similar thread (http://www.bjj.eu.com/forum/index.php?topic=2212.0) over on the EFN: get anything useful over there?
