Hello there...( I hate intrudicing myself ). I'm Toki ( HNK rocks ) and I'm 16....I actually don't practice no MA because there aren't dojos of my favorite styles in my city, so I study a lot of theory and do a lot of senseless katas. I'm not one of those anime-fan-ninja-wannabes, I'm studying martial arts mostly for personal defense and because I love asian culture.

Welcome to the Bullshido Forums Toki... Make sure you review your dojo (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=83) and add it to your user control panel so you can get the http://www.bullshido.net/images/dojoreview1.gif icon in your user info bar in your posts.

Most moderately-sized cities have at least one good MA school per each of the more popular styles. Where do you live, and which styles in particular are you looking for?

I live in Chino, CA...Anyway I want to start Aikido or Hapkido...The nearest aikido gym is in Claremont, and the Hapkido one is in San Dimas ( both take 22 minutes by car to get )...I can't learn aikido by myself because alone is difficult practicing throws, joint lock/manipulation, counterattacks and using the opponent strength without an opponent ( but I do a lot of kata ).For Hapkido I'm trying some kicks but for other techniques that requires an opponent i must GTFO.

Start off with boxing and Judo . Then move to Hapkido . It is a very complicated system that requires mad skills to learn . Think of it like a "finishing art " , like aikido . Not to be taken till you have master some basics of other complimentary styles .

If you want to kick pick up some kickboxing and judo .

Go find a local Judo school in the meantime, although I wager that after a good 6 months of Judo you will see what a waste of time Aikido is.

Welcome to Bullshido.

Welcome to Bullshido.
Thanks...
And also thanks for your replies...Yeah, I think now the only thing that I can do is study Kick Boxing, because Judo is only in Ontario...but there's a problem. I don't like KB, just don't like striking and the fighting style...it looks so "professional", I don't feel the MA preparation in it...do you know a way to make me like KB? I watched really few KB matches because I get bored, i prefer kickboxing trained MMA fighters...and it gives almost no training for aikido.

how about Shotokan-ryu ( just asking )?

****, I must move to LA one day of these.

Do you mean Kickboxing isn't "Oriental" or "Mystical" enough for you?

Check out Crocop on Youtube and if that isn't enough inspiration for you - then your looking at MA for the wrong reasons.

No - 16 is perfect age to start.

Go to your local school and get training ASAP - You won't regret it.

What's the kid gonna do? You can't argue against Crocop.

Seriously though, kickboxing ftw.

Yeah so I think for future reference we should just refer all n00bs who are deciding between Shaolin Do and Aikido (or whatever) to "Crocop on Youtube" and if it doesn't turn them they are not worth it.
