Hotmail just trapped an email from BBI HQ <[email protected]>
Subject : Could your Black Belts break away and set up their own school?

Attached were these three pictures:

Yeah.....the blue on black is horrible to read. The website isn't even up yet. Anyone else get this email?

Lol, this is another McDojoism trick whereby MA Grades are on the condition that you stay with the school. Grades are bullshit admittedly but this is exploitative bullshit because it is directly NOT in the students best interest.

Maybe this is the next big thing in MsDojoism, associations finding ways to further disincentivise leaving an org via the grading structure. Not that it'll actually stop someone.

I've just found a goldmine for pictures of disaster threads!

They list a lot of black belts some of which lend themselves to enquiry.
No idea if this guy is for real or not but he has a qualification list longer than your arm, like might be worth a look at:

OK, first "MMA" instructor listed that doesn't appear to actually be MMA in the sense that we use that term.

Ok, so basically when they list an instructor as teaching "Mixed Martial Arts" they don't necessarily mean the sport of MMA. Might be ignorance, probably is.

3/01/2007 11:05am,
How on God's green earth can you be a 10th dan in anything and be in your 40s or 50s. I honestly wish that there was a governing body for MA that would say your a fuckin tool if you have a 10th degree and not at least 70 years old and have made a lasting contribution to MA.

Why is it that all the Judo or BJJ guys I know have to be held at gun point to get thier next rank? Why is it every Karate or TKD numb nut has a fuckin 5th degree BB only after 10 years of training?

Honestly the work the gang, uhm staff, does here on this website is so valuable to the MA community and I am glad to have found it and become part of the gang, uhm thugs uhm group yea group.

I heared "Other" is the ultimate in self defence! THe guy took Kung Fu, Ninjutsu, TKD, Karate, Tai Chi and did weapons training. Thats enough to hang him at this site.

Evidently PizDoffs bullshit sniffer is working.

I'm guessing think what happens is that when the blackbelts register they get to tick as many style boxes, um, including "other" and they get logged as such with no meaningful form of verification. At least no one seems to have checked whether the guys putting "Mixed Martial Artist" on their profile really do that.

Maybe these guys don't know what MMA is? Quite possible in reality given the insular nature of the mainstream/quasi-TMA community. I doubt that they are deliberately misleading the general public/consumer.

BUT, this brings up a big problem with Blackbelt International! Their somewhat dubious selling point is that they enrich the student's experience by, quote:
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/8887/bbiwx0.gif

Yet, by the same token their efforts to vett their Instructor grade members is insufficient to prevent blatant misrepresentation of style, and in cases less than credible grade claims which even if true, should have raised alarm bells and caused a verification effort.

The sad likelihood is that BBI is money-driven, ie McDojo. Suspicion:

Blackbelt International = McJockstrap
Offering support to huge bollox

Therefore I think that this thread is MABS worthy. IMO.

can anyone do a 419eater.com style punking of this email? just to see where it goes?i dont have the time or energy to do it, but this could be hilarious if done correctly.

I would suggest that by failing to enforce their terms, they are inevitably going to fail in some of their objectives:

I just signed up and registered as an instructor... I listed myself as an 18th dan in Mixed Martial Arts. Here is a link... http://blackbeltintl.com/info.php?id=906

It took me about 3 minutes to do so - they have my email address, I'll post if they send me anything about wanting to verify my rank/school etc.
