SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) -- A tour group of U.S. senior citizens fought off a band of muggers in eastern Costa Rica, sending two of the assailants fleeing and killing a third, police said Thursday.
One of the tourists -- a retired U.S. serviceman whom officials estimated was in his 70s -- allegedly put Warner Segura in a headlock and broke his clavicle after the 20-year-old and two other men armed with a knife and gun held up their tour bus Wednesday, said Luis Hernandez, the police chief of Limon, 80 miles east of San Jose.
The Americans had arrived in Limon on the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Carnival Liberty.
"It was a group of 12 senior citizens from the United States who were going to spend a few hours in the area, but their tour bus entered a dangerous sector known as Cieneguita", Hernandez said.
The tourists drove Segura to the local Red Cross branch, but he was declared dead, Hernandez said. He declined to give the names or hometowns of the tourists.
The Red Cross also treated one of the tourists for an anxiety attack, Hernandez said.
Costa Rican authorities said they did not plan to file charges against the tourists, who left on their cruise ship after the incident.
"They were in their right to defend themselves after being held up," Hernandez said.
Hernandez said Segura had previous charges against him for assaults.

Article also says this:

"The victims struggled with the armed perpetrator, and were able to disarm him. During this process, the gunman's two accomplices fled the scene. In the course of disarming and restraining the assailant, he died from apparent asphyxiation."

U.S. senior `snaps' masked attacker's neck

Feb 24, 2007 04:30 AM

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica–A vacationing U.S. senior citizen killed an alleged mugger with his bare hands, and his travelling companions aboard a tour bus fended off two other assailants in the Atlantic coast city of Limon, police said.

The group of about a dozen cruise-ship passengers were climbing out of their vehicle Wednesday when the masked trio – one with a gun, the others with knives – attacked.

Suddenly, one of the tourists, a former U.S. marine in his 70s, pounced on the gunman and put him in a headlock, breaking his collarbone before eventually killing him, according to Limon police chief Luis Hernandez.

"His neck was completely snapped," Hernandez said.

Police identified the dead man as Warner Segura, 20. The other two assailants fled. Hernandez refused to identify the tourist who killed Segura.

The U.S. embassy confirmed the account, but also refused to release the name of the former marine. Costa Rican officials said they wouldn't charge the American tourist because he acted in self-defence.

Yep, not every elderly person is just waiting to be a victim. Heres a link to my hometown's newspaper and what happens when you **** with the wrong WWII vet. For further hilarity, read the comments at the bottom of the page, especially Lakeasha Anderson's. God, I hate that place.

I was surprised this didn't make it up here but this retired army guy 70 whose name is not being released for safety Killed a would be attacker in Costa Rica while on vacation their were 4 attackers 3 had guns one had a knife.

The retiree put the GUNMAN in a HEADLOCK, broke his clavicle. The other tourists where encouraged to fight back, and chased the others off. They drive the attacker to the hospital where he was pronounced dead due to affixiation.

So I guess "affixiation" is when he added an affix to the customer.

Also. You take fourth or so. Threads merged.
