View Full Version : Paul Vunak/PFS confusion

Okay, what the hell is going on here?

Paul Vunak seems to have two official pages, but the second one (www.fighting.net (http://www.fighting.net)) claims to have no affiliation to the first. (Down the very bottom of the page, with the copyrighting stuff).

Confused, I had a look at wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Vunak), which speaks of a boycott by Paul of the first website I came across (www.paulvunak.com (http://www.paulvunak.com)).

"In 2006 he began to promote his DEFCON ("Defensive Conditions")/Executive PFS system, which promised to add more Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and awareness-based self-defense strategies to PFS. As of August 25, 2006, however, Paul Vunak is no longer affiliated with PFS Video or DEFCON, and has parted ways with his senior instructor Bruce Corrigan. In fact, a notice on his website calls for a boycott of all PFS videos. He continues to promote the Executive PFS system."

So, then I did a google search on the boycott and discovered this: http://www.paulvunak.com/boycott.html

"There is a rumor being spread throughout the INTERNET that a boycott of PFS video has been solicited by Paul Vunak. We would like to say, that there is no boycott. PFS video is the sole source for the official videos containing Progressive Fighting Systems, and DEFCON material. Think about it logically, why would someone who participates willingly in making a video decide to boycott it? This slanderous, and low level type of thing has happened before targeting such great martial artists as Marc Denney, Burton Richardson, Matt Thornton, and many others - and now it is targeting Paul Vunak's abilities as demonstrated in his videos. To believe these rumors, is to believe that Paul has deteriorated in his ability, and stooped to a level that is unbelievable! We know this isn't fact.

We repeat - DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ANY TYPE OF BOYCOTT. Please make any decisions concerning what you buy yourself. After all, that is the JKD way, specifically - the freedom of choice!"

Both websites claim to offer training with Vunak himself (http://www.fighting.net/pfs_training.html and http://www.paulvunak.com/west.html), and both claim to be the official website, while discrediting the other.

Someone is very much lying.

Can someone/anyone explain this?

And also, why hasnt Vunak himself stomped out the imposter?

It probably all has something to do with the number of times Paul is in trouble with the law.

Okay, then the owner of the other site is making false claims!
Arnt there laws against that sort of thing? Like, they both use the same logo.

And why do you think Paul has allowed this to happen, considering he placed a boycott on PFS video?
Also, who IS the owner of this other site, responisble for these lies?

Okay, one possible explaination is that somewhere along the way, Paul sold the rights to those particular tapes and the right to use his name while marketing them. Then the falling out happened. Why would Paul enter into such an agreement? Maybe he really needed some cash in the 1990s.

BTW where would Paul's arrests have been, perhaps I can pull his criminal record some time.

That would explain most of it.
But what about the claims the site makes about offering lessons with Vunak?

Oh wait...

Huh. I just went to the site to get details about their claims...and the site has changed completly...

The site now simply leads to this page:
http://www.pfsvideo.com/paul_vunak.html

Even the message discrediting the boycott is gone! http://www.paulvunak.com/boycott.html - Yes, I know it not a working link, thats the point.

Well....problem solved then...?

Could it be somehow related to the creation of this thread?
Timing would suggest so...

So many mysteries left unsolved.

Hmmm. Oh well....
