Well, last night some of the Toronto members of the site threw together and improptu McThrowdown of our own.

Actually, it wasn't so much of a Throwdown as a "get your colleagues drunk and then proceed to have them beat you"-down.

Myself, SuperHappyLucky7, Repulsive Monkey and Kryptiq met up for a round of drinks and then some sparring in one of our local parks. (Complete with people stopping, staring and pointing at us as they walked by...WOOHOO!)

I learned a few things:

1) The Chinese arts are FUCKING ANNOYING! I found myself completely unprepared for some of their styles of attack. From continuously-moving hands (freakin' distracting!) to constant groin-kicks (AUGH! Thank heavens for my cup!) it was definitely educational. The guys tried to teach me a bit about "sticky-hands"...I have to admit, I still don't think I understand the point of the exercise and I wouldn't be able to stick to studying their styles, but they definitely gave me some new concepts and problems to consider and think about.

2) Big people hit much harder than little people. (DUH!) SHL7 was a totally new experience to me (he's a bigger guy, long reach, fairly solid mass). Needless to say, I suddenly had to respect his range, as well as his size. Normally I kick someone's leg and it moves them off-balance. Apparently when someone weighs as much as you do, this isn't the case. I've come to realize the serious disadvantage I have being a larger guy in my club. The smaller guys get the benefit of my size and strength to push them further...I'm not pushed nearly the same way. Sure, I may have to be a bit faster than usual, but I don't find it nearly as difficult as I did trying to match against a bigger guy.

3) Toronto is a FRIGGIN' AWESOME place to live with some seriously diverse people. We're definitely going to have to do this again...we even discussed doing it on a regular basis.

Anyone else in the Toronto area (or future visitors), feel free to e-mail or PM me if you care to explore outside your school. We don't beat each other senseless, but I'm definitely sore from some good contact. Padding is whatever you're comfortable with.

And then we go to eat (and maybe more drinks?) next time afterwards! I seriously encourage others in common cities to do the same!

Regards,
CrimsonTiger

Silly C.T., in Kyokushin they drink AFTER working out. And here in mo-mo land, the mormonfu guys/girls go for icecream, fucking icecream. ;-(

pat: The hope was that I would buy first round for everyone, liquor them up, and then I'd kick their asses. Just didn't work out that way.

Osiris: I'm still in for ATL. This is my home town, no cost to me to leave my place and train with other Torontonians! LOL! Do we have details about numbers yet? I want to book my tickets and hotel and stuff soon.

SUPERHAPPYLUCKY7 you bastard!!! That elbow I took on my right quad (just above the inside of the knee) is STILL KILLING ME!

What is this, some kind of Chi trick? Started aching yesterday during my running/cardio and seriously limited my ability to kick. Oh the pain!

You bastard. I love it!

there would be a pressure point there, combined with a chi strike the damage is amplified

Let me know, too (preferrably with some notice). There's a chance I can make it at some point if you guys do this semi-frequently. On that note, It looks like I'll be in TO on the weekend of Sept. 19, so train hard, 'cause I'ma gonna beat all your asses! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hehe, well played.

No, I lost a finger on my left hand last friday.
The spot where my 5th finger used to reside would be the stump on my left hand.
Though my nose does miss it too.

That's harsh, dude. I didn't stop to think it might have been a recent occurrence, or I would never have posted that. Terribly sorry to poke fun at your misfortune. My bad. Now I really feel like a ****.
I know I have a problem with speaking before my brain kicks in; didn't know I could do it with posting, too. :/
