There are no MA mags worth reading. Black belt Magazine is to martial arts what Popular Mechanics is to science. The only difference between the two is the ads, replacing Dim Mak with "Build your own Time Machine!" The phereomone aftershave is in both, go figure.

I like Dave Lowry's article in black belt, but it doesn't rationalize the price. If you want MA mags, read them in the store, then leave. You're better off.

if you're into mma, fighters only is good, thats a uk one, other than that, as stated above, they are mostly full of **** such as mail order ninjitsu courses. guaranteed a mention of bruce lee every month as well, because he invented and was responsible for everything to do with all the martial arts we know and love today,

Combat and Martial Arts Illustrated are the two big British ones but they're full of the same old **** about Bruce Lee and wanky interviews.

i've still got a copy of MAI where some wingchin cock-end is going on about how bruce lee basically invented armbars. total shite.

theres a magazine called 'fighters' in the uk, they cover good stuff, but the actual quality of the writing is piss poor

MAI loves anything covered in mysticism.

I tend to pick them up to read on the train to work. This guy seems to appear in MAI quite a lot:

I personally like Grappling Magazine for obvious reasons. They don't really deal a lot with stand up specifically; only when dealing with MMA. Blackbelt Mag sucks, I just finished reading an article they had about TKD's close snap kicks being used in a self defense situation. The TKD guy actually said that you didn't need to generate power for the technique to work because it would be so fast it would stun an attacker. Some bs along those lines. I'll see if I can pull it up and quote it.

What about Real Fighter magazine?

http://www.realfightermag.com/

I've read it, it seems to be interesting, but I know nothing of such things. Will it do until Bullshido magazine comes out?

JAMA used to be good (Journal of Asian Martial Arts). Serious scholarly articles, and some very good reviews of MA Books.

Then they did a George Dillman interview last issue and lost me forever.

Duh. What kind of magazines would you buy?

Talking about MAI I just picked up the newest issue and guess what? It contains an interview with one of Bruce Lee's original students. There's also a review of a Dillman seminar in which the reviewer claims to have been knocked unconcious by a finger lock. The fact that he's one of Dillman's students is purely coincedental.
