A while back I wrote a review for this kit I came across at a local Target store which included an inflatible punching bag and DVD instructional video on Karate. You can read it here (http://www.bullshido.net/modules.php?name=Reviews&file=viewreview&id=157).

Anyway, I was browsing around on Amazon.com and found this gem: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007WX1G6/sr=1-2/qid=1139359537/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-2555508-3314443?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance

It's the uniform they sell to go with the set. But here's the thing about it:

Features:

* Look and feel like a real karate star with this authentic 4-pc. outfit
* Authentic white wrap top with loose sleeves is comfortable while you’re learning all the moves
* Loose-leg karate pants great for karate kicks
* Comes with 2 karate belts that prove you’re the master

Yeah, it COMES WITH A BLACK BELT.

So it's official. The McDojo phenomenon has reached large chain retail stores and online outlets. I'd suggest that if you have an Amazon account (or would like to register a free one), write your reviews of this product. The one I wrote on there for the original boxed set is gone, but a few others have taken up the challenge and added their disapproval of this blatant exploitation of the Martial Arts. However, there are none for this kit which includes a black belt to "prove you're the master".

Feel free to write your reviews of both.

This really saddens me. In a way this could have been a cool idea to get kids to get off their ass and do something. If it showed a few real kicks and blocks and exercise and urged the kid to go to a real school and take leassons. Sounds like they are making it out to be this is all you need. The black belt included is the worst part really.
They have had black belt in a box type deals for years for adults and now this. I can understand how a young child could think they were really a black belt from something like this. Adults now thats something all togther diffrent.

Review submitted. Hope they post it .

Gah, they got alot more crap coming out. foam karate sticks "Nunchakus", rebreakable boards, the gi with black belt, and the karate studio. I had heard that the studio was one of the most wanted toys for the young kids this christmas past.
Hopefully these kids will move on to a real class.

Hey Prost lets make a BJJ kids product and cash in. We can put a cheesy mat in the box a silly dvd and a cheap gi and white belt we could sell expansion dvds with each belt rank!
Heh im kidding but you know they would sell .
We could be rich!!!
Our mascot could be Tapout Terry

Oh or a MMA kit with gloves and championship belt. "cage not included"

BJJ people are a hell of a lot more likely to kick someone's ass over this than karate people...so it is safe to do. It is why we make fun of midgets...because we don't fear them.

Are these products REALLY any worse than TKD classes? At least "Tommy Nitro"s only taking your money once, rather than ripping you off continuously for several years. The end result is the same: a *****-ass kid who couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Matter of perspective. Is getting shot in the face worse than being mauled by a hippo?

The success of this product will only encourage more BS to be brought to market along the same lines. Next we'll have a Master Pan's Iron Palm for Kids kit, complete with a bag of mung beans and Ben Gay.

That might actually be somewhat effective. They could beat each other with the beanbags and rub Ben Gay into each others eyes.

4 out of 5 stars i've just read the reviews, December 26, 2005

i have to say to those out there who are "real" black belts in the karate line--HELLO this is a kids toy and I can't believe that all of you are getting all uptight about a toy! I haven't even bought this yet and have only inquired about it because my daughter was interested in it-so i have only put ratings in on the assumption of what i think it would be but also because i mainly couldn't get my reveiw in otherwise-BUT I would hope to think that parents wouldn't actually think that their kids could get an actual black belt for karate from a toy that you use at home. Any normal parent would think, hey this is a different kind of entertainment for my kid that doesn't have them sitting in front of a computer or holding a game playing games. They are getting some kind of exercise which is what we want for our kids. So i say to those of you karate "black belts" RELAX it's only a toy and yes, if you want your child to achieve a real black belt in life, then sign them up for a class. But at least your not spending lots of money on something that they may not like to do--this is a good way of introducing them to karate and what it initially entails. PLus, kids at 5, like mine, just want to have fun and not be competitive regarding belts in karate.

Just because you are loosing students in your respective areas does not mean you need to blast a product or parents who buy it. My son loves this and I enjoy him getting 30 minutes of physical activity at home while I do dishes or laundry or even just have a few moments to enjoy myself. You KARATE nuts are just off your rocker and reinforce why I do not want my so to join a real karate class. I do not want a Stephen Segal for a son just a boy who had fun and a 30 minute work out.

Just to let you know the bag is EXTREMELY durable and the tape is fun and enjoyable. not ment for older kids but young ones it is a great work out throuhout the week.

Looks like you 'black belts' just got pwned by equally self-righteous soccer moms, burn bitches!

Someone got this crap for my nephew for Christmas 2 years ago. Of course my brother wanted me to teach him MA, I said sure we can try to work out some times for lessons at his house, but he is to never wear that Black belt when I'm around.

The thought of this commercialism to the Nth degree sickens me.

Mothers like that are also just looking for away to get the kid out of their hair. The only reason they dont enroll the kid in a real class is it would mean they would have to actually involve themselves in the kids life. Its the norm anymore to let the tv, dvd player, or game system do the parenting. Its sad but true.

That filth makes me sick. Just like this: http://www.soldiercity.com/search-exec/nodecode/true/search_term/Children/affiliate_id/1202/keyword/military+costume/campaign/misc/page_num/3

To think that those kids can put on a flight jacket and pretend that they're capable of defending their country! Those little maggots have never even undergone basic training. Why, they'd get killed trying to fly a Cessna, for ****'s sake, never mind a refined piece of technology like a motherfucking Tomcat.

Another step backwards for the military.

Reminds me of 80´s, when people warned about too much video gaming. It was supposed to help kids reflexes, and make them potential fighter pilots and so on. :wtfgif9fr Instead it made them lazy fatasses.

I wonder what the soccer mums will say when their precious little black belt comes home from school, crying, bruised and bloodied. Through their sniffeling and slobbering, manage to tell dear mummy of how the school bully beat nine different types of crap out of them after they told him they were a black belt and were gonna kick his arse.
