Truely excellent: - this is what wepaons training and fighting is all about, or at least what it should be about *IMO*. I don't like some of the forms though, I think they're quite unrealistic (a knife is a knife though, so the moves in the forms they use would still kill I'm sure), but the actual training and the actual sparring or fighting look excellent.

Take a look at some of the Full Contact sparring, or fighting that they, the Dog Brothers and Sayoc Kali people do:

Dog Brothers:

Notice the "Power" clip near the end of this list too.

They're good examples IMO, would love to try some of it out, as long as I wouldn't have to do Forms and only Forms...

I'm assuming you're referring to the transition drills? They aren't forms in the classical sense of the word. I can't explain it well, but they have a pretty good answer here. http://www.sayoc.com/faq.htm Scroll down to the part about forms and drills.

You can't really make a judgement about the realistic nature of the drills just because of the fact that you don't understand the thinking and methodology that goes behind each movement. That's not any skin off your nose, it's just true for everyone who hasn't been exposed to that type of training and thinking that goes behind every movement. I'll probably elaborate a bit later, but yeah.

Guro Marc "Crafty Dog" Denny, one of the founding Dog Brothers, trains Sayoc Kali in my training group. He is a very cool guy.

Wow, well it looks like a serious martial art - have you ever done any "Spariing"/fighting like in the Dog Brothers "Gathering" videos?

You can't really make a judgement about the realistic nature of the drills just because of the fact that you don't understand the thinking and methodology that goes behind each movement. It's only fair to say this if you can show me it actually working, like in the Dog Brothers videos, I'd like to see the Sayoc guys in those fights they have (are they in any of them by any chance?)

I'm really interested in this stick fighting, it looks like the "real thing", they actually train properly etc, and actually practice what they teach. It looks Very good, at least if you have a weapon on you.

I'll check the FAQ, thanks.

I LOVE what that one guy says about Power paraphrasing "If you don't have Power (and only graceful movements), none of this matters, but if you have "this", "this" and "this" (swings the practice stick hard) you will Always be a fighter to be reckoned with." - Very impressive.

I orginally found their site and looked into your Sayoc site because of that one post you did, so thanks.

So what?

Video correspondence is one of the hallmarks of a McDojo. Even though their "style" is apparently not bullshido, if they do convey rank or whatever they use (I don't know that they do) they have become McDojo.

They have to be teaching bullshido, this is like the first phase they have to get to, to qualify as a Bullshido. It's quite obvious they train hard and properly so they're not.

Video correspondence is another way of selling videos...

Conveying rank through video correspondence teaching is McDojo, just because they fit your idea of "good" or proper training doesn't excuse such things.

IF they are selling rank, then they're McDojo.

Go do bjj kata.

Just because it;s your opinion that video tutorial is a sign of a McDojo, it doesn't mean it is.

they are "SELLING rank"? I thought is was just a tutorial, sorry....

OK so this is particular thing is Bullshido, but they themselves are still legitimate, and they know what they're doing in terms of stick fighting. My "idea" of "good"? I'll say it again: when it comes to what is effect and what isn't for OBVIOUS reasons, I HAVE NO OPINION. I say what is TRUE and factual in terms of what is "good", if I'm wrong I'll seriously be shocked and amazed - I'll be dumbfounded. To me what I know is as near as fact as you'll ever really get in the Martial Arts.

IF it is a correspondence course for rank (which is much different than simple demonstration or tutorial videos) then that is McDojo. That is all I said, and it stands, regardless of their own abilities.

As has been pointed out a number of times since the name change there is a difference between McDojo and Bullshido.
