I watched some UFC this weekend and got curious what type of MMA styles are winning the most. I looked at UFC site and did a search on this site and didn't find anything. Anyone have any facts or a web site I can look at? Doesn't have to be UFC, but it should be an organization that has had a lot of fights and allows all types of MMA. Thanks

I'd guess it would be hard to say anymore... I don't think anyone just trains purely in one style anymore, and tries to compete in that. Anyone whose primary style is a grappling art is going to train in striking, and anyone in a striking art is going to train in grappling.

Maybe for the first few UFCs you'd see someone who only trained in one style, but not so much anymore.

Yeah, about the most pure that you'll get is a fighter who does one style for stand up, and another for groundwork. Even then, someone may end up working out with another trainer from another style, and their influence may rub off on them.

MMA is a ruleset, not a fighting style.

The closest you might come is the fighting camps fighters come from - Team Quest, Team Punishment, Lion's Den, Milletich Fighting Systems, etc.

Steve is right but Sherdog used to have that stat. The top rungs were

1. Kickboxing
2. Wrestling
3. BJJ

I guess another direction you could go in is method of winning asides from decision: Ref stoppage due to certain techniques (broken arm from armbar ala Mir/Sylvia for example), knockout from face kick, RNC, etc. There was a study in the Journal of Asian Martial Arts on the topic about 2 years ago, and I'm sure others have kept a tally.

Then again, what art can you attribute "fight stoppage due to torn eyelid" or "ground and pound" to?
