Hey there. First of all, thanks for reading my article. I just want to respond to the comments made...

Boyd -
"WOWZA! TMAs tend to have poor conditioning? Flashy kicks and deep stances are impractical? Wing Chun is totally awesome except for every single school that teaches it? God bless you for opening my eyes!"

I never said it was anything new. It says quite clearly that it's just a summary. "A summarisation of the TMA vs MMA argument with an open minded approach." Oh, and i never said wing chun was totally awesome.

PizDoff - "Muay Thai, BJJ is MMA?
whoa i didn't know that......"

Again, it's just a summary.

brandeisansoo - "How is MT not a TMA? BJJ is mixed? Modern maybe, but not mixed..."

Well, that's a different argument, but generally most people take MT and BJJ to be an MMA.

The article can be found at http://www.bullshido.us/article_read.asp?id=134

Thanks, Das Moose.

Yeah, that's what i meant. I mean that's what most people generally mean by MMA.

The article wasn't supposed to be ground breaking, it was just supposed to summarise an open minded and realistic viewpoint. What did you think of it?

Btw, i'm thinking of writing an article on centre line and wing tzun. What do you think of that?

problem is that most traditional arts are not trained in the traditional manner. alot of traditional arts have undergone revision to tailor them for safe practice by modern day civilians. they do not adequately represent the true traditional method. examples are too numerous to mention but here are a few that are well known.

1)modern arnis-they dont hit your hand on defense, just your stick
2)judo
3)karate-do( the do is the important part)
4)capoiera-old barrio fights used razors and even guns; now they dance
5)kenjutsu became kendo-all the targets in kendo are covered by armour, useless in real armoured combat. kenjutsu(the old style)attacks the joints in the armour...where it is vulnerable
6)wushu-speaks for its self

your statements are a generalization and unfortunately true when it comes to many, many dojos.
