After reading the Muay Thai vs Kung Fu clip thread, I decided to submit some clips that I found awhile back. They're probably not up, yet, so here are the links:

Main site: http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/other.html

Joe Pomfret NHB fights (bare knuckles):
http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/joe_nhb_hi.asf
http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/30sec_hi.asf
http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/joe-lll_hi.wmv

Juko Kai... or "How to take a lickin' and keep on tickin'":
http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/juko_kai.wmv
(If you want to learn how to actually fight back, you'll have to learn another style.)

"Fast Defense Training":
http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/fastdefense.wmv
This one is kind of interesting. It starts out sort of cheesy, and I'm not sure about some of the techniques the defenders throw. Still, I really like the way the attacker (in full pads) talks realistic smack. He seems kind of jacked-up, at times, and unpredictable. I haven't been in a many real fights, but this is what I imagine a lot of them are like. ("I hear you called my girlfriend fat!"... "Come on, bitch!") Kind of frightning, actually. Makes me want to train harder. :)

Enjoy!

I'm going to poke around the site and see what else I can find.

Greta videos, but what the hell happened in that BJJ vs. Uechi-Ryu video? It was like four minutes of the BJJ guy pounding Joe from mount, then the camera jerks away for a second, and suddenly the BJJ guy is like "I SURRENDER! (insert obligatory "France also surrenders!" joke here)".

In fact, watching again, it REALLY looks like the BJJ guy won. Are there ANY submissions you can pull when you're being rear-mounted? Specifically, ones that take half a second to work?

Oh **** Boyd, I know what's wrong. Pomfret knew mere grappling than the BJJ dude. Seriously. Pomfret is the one mounting the other dude. That doesn't look like Uechi-Ryu to me. Same thing with BJJ.

Here is something that will work in half a second, but I doubt it will work in real life situtation:

grabbing floating rib (SCARY!)

grabbing thoart

grabbing collar bone (only 7 lbs of pressure require to break)

grabbing testicle (I know this is old but it DOES work)

I am not saying that these are legal in sport, but I do know that they could work if done properly (inculding depend on who you are doing it to) and fast enough.

Just throw rock at it and it will go away.

Boyd, are you talking about he match vs Eric Santanillo? If so, Joe got the mount. Eric then tried to get out by sitting up. Joe then "took his (Eric's) back". I think this is what you meant by "rear mounting". It's a common position in BJJ and other grappling. It's worse for the other guy than being mounted. Joe then used a "rear naked choke" on Eric. ...and, yes, it does work that fast. Once you get it on someone, if they don't tap out, they'll pass out. (It cuts off the blood flow to the brain.)

As for the bitch slaps, I susped bare knuckle fighters do that to keep from ripping their knuckles to shreds. (See the thread about punching to the face.) It could also be a rule, because I noticed both fighters using palm strikes to the body. Not sure.

I think you guys have the fighters confused. Joe was the one on top and doing most of the ass-beatin' during most of the fights. He was wearing the light (olive?) trunks. In the fight vs Eric, Joe's style is listed as "Uechi Ryu and BJJ", but most of what I was was boxing and BJJ. (Note that the text at the intro did not say "Uechi Ryu VERSUS BJJ". Thus, there was not a UR guy vs a BJJ guy. I don't know what the other guy was.)

If the guy crosses his legs in back mount, you can perform an ankle lock. Basically, place your calf over his feet, and get the foot of the leg over his feet into the crook of the opposite leg, and pull down with your legs.

This is an exceptionally painful technique, one I learned in my first lesson of BJJ.

However, other than that and a figure-four toe hold, I cannot think of any others. The latter is fairly risky, as you expose yourself to chokes.

Ahh, I did. Thanks for clarifying that for me. Also, I really liked the "fast self-defense" video, because it gave me a pretty good idea of what to do when a bunch of pissed-off, foulmouthed spacemen come to take our women.

It's not that bad if someone takes your back anyhow. If you train BJJ for 5 months you get used to it and it isn't really a big threat. Some fighters actually give their backs because there are 3 or 4 good subs when someone has your back.

I though Pomfret was the BJJ guy in all those video's. In the first Video his opponent obviously didn't know BJJ. Pomfrett used BJJ guard passes as well as many other BJJ techniques.

As far as the slapping goes, you can't punch someone in the head multiple times with your fist. A hand breaks very easily.
