I'm REALLY interested in this game. I really like the concept of a FP RPG. I also like the mythos that WW has came up with. All the reviews I've read say it's good. Unfortunately, reviews tend to ignore stability issues, bugs, etc these days.

Anyone play this?

If so, any good?

Played over at my friends, my own personal notes.
Shooting
- horrid, gun wavers here to there until you apparently pump up skill in it, go with melee weapons since they have knock down and what not (knock them down, shoot them until they get up, and switch back to melee)

Cutscenes
- atrocious, in the beginning of the game, the female (or male? I only played male characters the two times I played) vampire girl who made you gets her head chopped off, from what I remember, you see the characters, the guy reaches for his cloud imitation sword, you hear it, but it doesn't actually animate out.
- The 'feed' attack I believe was taken from the headcrab slombies of half life 2 I think, I saw some serious similarities between it.

However for the good points.
- The dialogue, it reminded me alot of Fallout 2, with some of the hilarious choices you could make, but this isn't to be unexpected, since one of the key people from Fallout 2 was involved (I believe I read).
- The missions are pretty fun, I saw my friend playing the 'Haunted Mansion' level, and it was fairly impressive... fairly.

The RPG aspect of the game (I feel, I haven't played that many rpg's, too lengthy and thought involved :] ) is pretty good, you can get some interesting conversation choices depending on your character (I played nosferatu at first, but then the police started blowing me away because I frightened someone away?)
Oh yeah, that reminds me of a seriously annoying aspect of the game, the amount of police officers. There's about 1 cop per 6-7 people or so, boooooooo. They whip out their guns very quickly, but for some reason you can just hop into a sewer and they forget about you.

The conversations with people are fully voiced, you'll hear their reply. I laughed quite a bit because my characters seduction wasn't up to par and you can approach people in 'the club'. The cheesiest pick up lines you will ever hear, they are great, as well as the replies.

Hrm... graphics are less then Half Life 2, for some reason, probably because there are usually more characters on the screen, regardless, they aren't nearly half life 2 quality, they seem a little 'bland' and 'plain' would be the best way to put it.

If I had more money, I would buy it, if only for the dialogue choices you can make, but alas until christmas Ill just have to play it for a couple of hours at my friends house.

Hope this review helped.

You do realize skill progression is a part of RPGs correct? I was expecting this to be like Deus Ex. You suck HARD in the begining.

You do know what the Masqurade is correct? Your SUPPOSE to keep a low profile, and not run around carrying guns, or other law violations.

Sounds like GTA. Your America's most wanted, the police have the paint and spray surrounded, and poof, a new paint job confuses them.

Much like Rockstar, Trioka has a great sense of humor.

Blast, I had a feeling the screens shots I've seen were too good to be true.

It does, even if I don't understand some of your compliants. Maybe I need to play the game to understand fully.

Going to sleep soon,so here's my simple review:
It is a very good RPG,but not w/o its flaws,i was hoping that they would have some day/night cycles and that the characters would act according to time schedule.
Anyway,if you want funny dialogues, choose to play as Malkavians,it is just like the way ppl talk in bullshido.net(or is it Jenfucius?)~~~
A very deep storyline and plot to say the least.
EDIT:Shall give more complete one tml~~~

Yeah I kind of rambled on my review, but I think I got the main points across.
I think the point I was trying to make was, I have an equal amount of skill points in guns as well as melee, and melee is fair more effective for me personally. I've played quite a few FPS's and have fairly decent aiming, but trying my hardest, I could not hit a character in game from 10 feet away if he sized stepped in the slightest.

As for the Masquerade, I realize that, but when you play the game, and you accidentally hit the wrong conversation choice and a NPC flees from you in mortal terror, and the police start popping out of nowhere opening fire on you, it's a little irritating.

It's all a matter of personal preference, try it out.

Sounds good, will have to get my hands on it. :D

Liu, sim lim will be open over the new year period, won't it? I'm trying to get some tourists from Australia to pick stuff up for me. XD

Deus Ex 2 was ridiculous....

Good but few steps from being great~~~
I thought sim lim is always open? Anyway the Malkavians have special dialogues, imagine talking like Jenfucius~~~!!! :new_scram
Anyway you coming to Singapore or?

I picked up this game, it is really good.

Tom,

I'm not sure if you played the tutorial portion or not. You learn there that most human made guns are useless against a vampire. The shotgun appears to be the most effective one.

Not that it matters right now, as I'm a Brujah brawler. I'm having fun with the uber-graphic stealth kills.

My impressions so far.

Good game that can hopefully be fixed with patches. The only portion that gives me trouble is the hub sections. Other then that, the game runs smooth. Trokia has appearently promised a patch. Also, I read somewhere there was suppose to be a multiplayer portion. I guess that got scrapped which isn't a bad thing. This has similar aiming to the Deus Ex system, and that did not work well multi.

There are a lot of tiny detail I'd like to change in VTM:BL BUT ... the thing that disappointed me the most about it, is the lack of choice. Or at least even the lack of "the illusion of choice".

I'm a fan of RPG's like Fallout 1-2 etc. Where you can play the game with any skills you like. Hell you can defeat the end boss just by pumping your steal and demolition skills. Anyway, long story short. In VMT:BL you can be a smooth talking pimp with the most geeky hackingskills in the world and get through half the game and then BLADAM! you're stuck. You've wasted your skills on bullshit because to get through the last parts of the game, you're gonna have to kick some ass. For an RPG it's (I never thought I'd say this) too action oriented. I would call it an adventure game with RPG influence.

It was an allright game. Just not very spectacular in my eyes.

As long as I can specialise in pistols, it'll be fine. ;)

Nothing a stealth pistol and a few LAMs can't fix. :D

Picking NO combat skills in an RPG? That's just stupid. Even demo in fallout could be used as a combat skill. But witout the ablity to fight in Fallout, you wouldn't last long.
