about a year ago, i was shopping for schools in my area. I came across a school that taught "chun kuk do"... something that chuck norris invented. the place reeked of mcdojoism, especially when i sat in for a class. does anyone know about this "art", or if it has any credibility?

I haven't heard of Chuck Norris inventing a style. Chuck took Tang Soo Do, or some version of it, I believe.

The closest that I know of to "chun kuk do" is Chung Moo Do which is a front for a cult.

I heard to get a black belt in Chuck's system you have to get a blue belt in Machado jiu-jitsu. Anybody know if this is true?

I know a girl who is a bb in Chuck Norris's system. She didnt know any grappling....until I showed her some to prepare for a MMA match. It ended up being a pretty "hard" thing to do. :D

The first page of links should answer most questions about where it came from. As for the McDojo factor? I dunno...

"In 1997, Chuck achieved another milestone in his life by being the first man ever in the Western Hemisphere (non Korean) to be awarded an 8th degree Black Belt Grand Master recognition in the Tae Kwon Do system. This was a first in 4,500 years of tradition."

He was more than that. Don't be jealous, we can't all be black belts in TKD.

Doh!

Anyway, he's at least TSD, TKD and Machado Jiujitsu...years ago there used to be a VA Beach "chuck norris system" school I remember...reminded me of typical sport karate like I was in. I suppose they have added teh grapple since then.

Yes, we can.

Only if you start at age 2, so you can achieve the rank of grandmaster by age 5.

Chuck has always seemed like a down to earth guy, he was one of the first to "embrace" grappling.
