I know this is going to seem somewhat like a troll post, but I pose this as a serious question. Since our human population of this rock is continuing to grow in girth, and people keep trying to see how far skin can stretch there is a new issue arising for self defense. How does one grapple someone who is morbidly obese?? I have been putting some real thought into this question (probably more than I should), but I just can't come up with a way to counter blubber and weight. Would any type of takedown even be effective against someone that huge?? I couldn't see any version of a leg takedown working since it would be like grabbing a tree.

So this is the question I pose to you: how do takedown a morbidly obese person, and what do you do once on the ground to win??

You cant take down fat people because you suck.

It really is as simple as that.

Get better at grappling.

Are you fat?? Morbidly obese even?? It's ok just eat less.

Analogy fail. you would have been better off to say "ok, thanks." Instead, this sounds like a cheesy trolljob.

Why are we worried about taking down fat people again?
I mean you can probably slowly walk away from most of them without being in much danger.

It was a cheesey troll, but then again so was his post. I usually sink to the level of others, I probably owe push-ups.

It's funny you should ask, it's seems like whenever I get into an arguement with someone they have a good 100 lbs of blubber on me. So it just got me wondering would any of my grappling even work with a weight difference like that, and even if I got them to the ground it's not like I could mount someone who is so big that I might roll off.

For the record though I haven't fought anyone that fat yet so this is like my version of a ask the pros.

Sometimes there's no way around it.

Do you know what the repeated over and over again in Defensive Tactics School? "You're physical fitness directly impacts your ability to defend yourself."

Too bad the video of Anmlmthr's match vs the hambeast was just bits and pieces, but it did show that despite an incredible difference in size, patience and technique are great equalizers.

These threads ususally end up with people saying "the smaller guy can win, if he has better skill and doesn't fight force against force", so I'll just throw out there that I've seen vaguely athletic normal dudes overpower obese dudes using brute force. They may be bigger and constantly carrying around more weight, but that alone doesn't really make you strong.

Ankle pick/low single-leg seems to be the go-to.
