No, not for me, for my little guy (6). He competed in a small local BJJ tourny. He did gi and no gi, lost most of his matches by points, won some by submission and managed to squeek out a bronze in gi. He was smaller and less experienced than the others (has about 3 months) but really looked like he's been doing it much longer. I was pretty proud of him, mostly for the way he conducted himself. He sat quietly waiting his turn, did three matches in a row without hesitation and was very coachable, tried to do everything his coach asked him to do. His coach asked me to coach my boy from the sidelines for one match because he was facing someone from the same school, that was a disaster. All in all a good experience. It was nice to see so many kids doing something real, not sitting in front of video games. I noticed that none of the kids present were grossly overweight.

Good for you kid. Congrats.

Submissions are allowed for kids that young?

Yes, although I'm pretty sure he was the youngest one there, he's big for his age. The kids he was going against were a little older and had more experience. They were watching them real close and would stop anything that looked unsafe. It was good.
