Hi

Although I've been a member here for some time, I've never felt that I had anything to contribute to a discussion, or anything I wanted to ask. I did learn a lot though, thanks!

A friend of mine is saving up some money to train with Jee Choi
http://www.houseofblackdragonsociety.com/house.htm

He says this guy will make hima JKD AND Kali instructor in a weekend, for $1000 ! :new_shock

Of course this sounds like BS to me, but if somebody has some info on this guy, it would be much appreciated. At this stage its just my personal opinion and logic hopefully standing in the way of him getting ripped off.

The more facts I have, the more chance I have of helping my friend keep his savings.

thanks!

Couldn't find an actual location for this guy from his website.

If he's kiwi, he sure throws around some US history (Bowie, Arkansas toothpick and Susan B Anthony)

Tell your friend to save his money. All this and no listing of teachers or actual arts trained.

Regardless of style or origin, claiming to be able to achieve mastery enough to be an instructor in one weekend is inevitably BS. And taking $1000 to do it just makes it a con.

Which is why its a safe bet you can't master anything in a single weekend.

Tell your friend to stay away.

I have been telling him exactly that, but he's a stubborn SOB...

the only way this could POSSIBLY be anything even remotely legit is if it's a program for people that are already an instructor of another style. Even then it's pretty thin.

Well, to be fair, he does mention one instructor, James Keating:

That said, I agree with you - plenty of red flags popping up here, and I'd stay away from it.

Keating does a lot of clinics and camps. Did this fellow spend a weekend with, in his words, "Uncle Jim", or a decade? If it's the latter he may be worth checking out.

How much does it cost to keep this certification "current"?

Usually anything under the moniker "Instinctual fighting" is pretty much bs and I don't understand how your friend could actually think anyone could be certified as an instructor of anything besides CPR in a weekend. Thats just common sense...

I agree

he, alas, obviously lacking common sense, does not

I think this is fitting in many ways:

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geHLdg_VNww&ob=av3nl)

Skip to 1:09 if your an impatient little newb who doesn't want to hear the whole of a fantastic song.

hehehe... just saw my post above and it looks like the soldier/goblin thing on the opening frame of the embedded video has a massive nutsack.

Perhaps he'll teach him how to charge gullible people a $1000? That couldn't take much more than an afternoon.

Before the other guy gets the money, ask your friend if he'd like to buy some magic beans.
