Some clips from Kyokushin-kan shinken Shobu competitions.
Shinken Shobu is a rule format designed by the kyokushi kan faction of kyokushin karate to reflect kyokushin sparring as it looked before the knockdown rules (which bans fist &elbow strikes to the face aswell as all holding and grabbing the opponent) was invented in the early 60ies.
Shinken shobu is basically knockdown rules, but allows hand and elbow strikes to the head. It allows clinch, throws and limited time ground-grappling after a throw (tryng to get a pinhold or strangulation). But scoring, timing and so on is identical to the normal knockdown karate rules.
It is run in limited entry tournaments. Limited as in limited fighters are allowed in each weight class. Large number fighter tournaments, as knockdown where over 500 fighters have competed in a single weight class.
