We set scene in the 1972 Munich Olympics as Wilfried Dietrich takes on Chris Taylor in a Greco-Roman battle.
Wilfried Dietrich was the David. He was a gold medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics for heavyweight Freestyle wrestling, a silver medalist in Greco in 1956 and 1960, a bronze medalist in Greco in 1964, and a bronze medalist in Freestyle in 1968. He also had a fuckton of World and European Championship medals.
Chris Taylor was the Goliath. At 412 lbs, he was the heaviest Olympian ever until Judoka Ricardo Blas, jr. usurped his record. Following his Olympic career, he entered the pro wrestling circuit but ended up having to retire due to health issues and dying at the age of 29.
Ironically, despite this fantastic throw, Taylor was the only one of the two to win a medal in the 1972 games. Dietrich failed to win a Freestyle or Greco-Roman medal, while Taylor earned a bronze medal in Freestyle. His only loss in the Freestyle bracket was to Alexsandr Medved, who's essentially the Alexander Karelin of Freestyle wrestling (Karelin was a Greco guy, in case you're confused).
