HAVE YOU HEARD?
Dennis Forleo and his wife, Pine Reed, have opened a Christian-based martial arts school in West Park Plaza. The school across from Corral West is called Billings Chi Tu Do, which means, "The way of the anointed one" in Mandarin.
Forleo has studied martial arts for 18 years and taught the techniques for 16 years, most recently in a small town near Yosemite National Park in California. The couple moved to Billings in the summer of 2000 and started their school at home the first year. They spent another year building a student base in a church gym at the First Assembly Life Center at 550 32nd St. W.
The school melds four types of martial arts techniques: tae kwon do, escrima, a Philippine weapons-based system using sticks and staffs, and traditional jujitsu and a Brazilian variation of this style. Forleo also teaches some kung fu self-defense moves. So what is the connection with the Bible? Forleo cites Bible passages saying, the Lord is a warrior. "The Bible tells us to whatever we do, do it with all of our heart. Because I teach people to defend themselves, I do it for the Lord," he said. "We're not promoting violence. That's the last thing we're doing. We're preparing the mind, body and spirit." War sayings via the Internet
