I've been lurking these boards for awhile, so I thought I should introduce myself before I just jumped into discussions. So here goes:

My name is Trent. I have been studying MA for on and off for a little over 6 years. In the past I have studied Aikido, Hapkido (USHF), Judo and BJJ under Greg Lucas (a purple belt under Caique at the time that I studied at his school). I currently take private classes with Dwight Deckard (deckardsma.home.insightbb.com/) in Martial Concepts (www.martialconcepts.com).

I begain studying MA after moving to go to college and getting a job as "Crisis Intervention" at a Domestic Violence Transitional Housing Program. That basically meant that it was my job to keep keep wife beaters, child molesters, rapists, etc. from getting to their intended and unintended targets. I realized that relying only on the police (I have respect for the job that police do, unfortunatly a high percentage commit domestic violence and sometimes are a little "slow" in responding) for handling difficult situations might very well get me killed. I sought out MA training. Having no knowledge to work from and no one to ask about it at the time, I begain surveying classes and instructors. I am very fortuante to have mostly had instructors who were very honest and upfront about what I was learning and what was practical in real confrontations. It was actually through intructors that didn't teach what I needed that I found what I wanted to be learning and where to do it.

I left that job after 3 years and soon after my car died which is what put an end to my BJJ training (the school I attended was 20 miles away). After that I would get together with my training parters to drill and spar until they all eventually moved away. I did nothing for almost two years until about six months ago I got in contact with my current instructor and put together a class of 4 people. I plan to stay with this instructor and system well into the forseeable future.

I appreciate what this site is dedicated to doing, and I hope that I can help.

Okay, despite a boring first post, I actually do have a sense of humor.

Looks mostly like decent stuff to me. Welcome to bullshido.

There's quite a lot there, and I don't see a lot of formal qualification listed there. That said, if he knows his stuff, he knows his stuff.

The Hybrid Grappling area introduces students to concepts and training methods from Brazilian Jujitsu, Shootfighting, Judo and Hapkido

I'll clariify the use of Hapkido in Martial Concepts. Hapkido, as taught several USHF instructors isn't exactly what you might call "traditional." Back in the 60's and 70's, well before the popluarity of MMA in the US, Don Burns founded the USHF to be an ever changeing and expanding MA. A lot of techniques were stolen from other arts and became part of USHF Hapkido. From what I've seen in Martial Concepts, the Hapkido aspect is primarily for dealing with various situational attacks, such as grabs from behind and and the like. Beyond that, there are some unorthadox takedowns.

Ahh, no. Most Hapkido is crap. I'll I'm saying is that in the Martial Concepts system the techniques that work are incorporated.

Well it's good that you are learning BJJ and Judo. I don't know if the striking from any of those arts are worthy of merit though. Then again, I guess kicking a guy in the face wouldn't do look well to the law.

I actually studied BJJ and Judo several years ago, before I started training in Martial Concepts. The grappling that we train is the same as I recieved with Lucas. The Striking technique that in my school is a Boxing\Muay Thai combination.

The school looks solid from the site, but there is one big problem I have. I don't think I could ever take a man named "Dr. Winkle" seriously. No matter how badass, how many times he'd beat me, I'd still probably giggle every time I heard their name. It just sounds so harmless and happy, maybe like the name of a character on sesame street.

"Hiya Big Bird, how ya feeling today?"
"Just fine. Thanks Dr. Winkle."

Welcome to Bullshido.

Welcome to Bullshido where some people try to crap all over the new guy to make themselves look more informed, tough, or intimidating than they really.

A few things you should know…Some members crap all over anyone who does not study, or bow down in shaking fear, to their deadly style of martial arts…Some use their little negative rep button to keep critics from running their dumb asses off the posts…and some are just keyboard warriors who troll and try to create controversy. However, you will find out quickly who these people are and learn just ignore them. I see that you have already meet a few…

Before I start posting, I thought I should introduce myself
