Anyone ever heard of this style? My instructer said it was a blend of yudo(like judo but not sport) and hapkido and another style i forgot. Centers around throws and locks i believe. I also wondered if it was similar to BJJ?

From what I remember, Han Mu Do is a Korean martial art developed by Master Hee Young Kimm. Master Kimm has a great deal of experience in TKD and HKD, as well as yudo, kum do, and I believe Kuk Sool Won. The style was actually approved by the Korean government as an official style and is supposed to be an amalgam of the Korean martial arts. As far as I know, it is a stand-up art and does not resemble BJJ in any way. Well, no more than any other stand-up grappling art. If they do teach ground fighting, it is more of the kind that is supposed to work against someone with zero ground experience giving absolutely no resistance.

Yudo is Korean Judo.

No one can fight on the ground unless they are Brazilian.

Ummmm...first of all Yudo is a sport. Actually Korea is a top player in the Yudo world. There is no difference between judo and yudo. They are one and the same and your instructor is wrong. OK...now that we have gotten past that, as it was already mentioned, Dr. Kimm was a KSW stylist and then started doing other systems, such as hapkido, yudo a taekwondo. Han Mu Do (Korean Martial Way) is his system. He is said to be an authority on Korean MA history, though I have never read any of his books yet. ($99.00 is a bit steep right now).
