Some type of teachers, will exclusively show some students the "other way" of performing a certain move, the "secret", "advanced" "proper" way of doing it, "that a lot of instructors dont even know"(etc etc), but grasshopper (i.e. you, or whomever for that matter) gets the real deal, the secret stuff, the advanced level shiznit, that the others never get taught, for whatever reason.

its kind of like the "too deadly for the ring" cliche, but more on the "too advanced and secret to show anybody" vibe.

At what point does it become so exclusive for some people to have the priviledge of learning aspects of an art, whilst others are not taught these aspects. And is this 'secrecy' thing really so neccessary for students to have to endure thoughout training.

and BTW dont tell anybody I showed you this either, or show anybody I told you this, or teach anyone this stuff, or ever let anyone know that I taught this to you.

one of the many wonderful aspects of bullshido IMHO

"Showing off" is another whole story (yet ironically related, I agree).

The Gracies were/are notorious for "witholding" certain techniques from non-family members.
And that goes for almost every other MA.

Ronin69, that is suprising indeed. one would think that they would be the last to act in that manner (regarding teaching) especially since they were so "open" about breaking such barriers down.

Naw....you're just jealous because they didn't teach YOU....

I don't mind withholding teaching from arseholes, but for everyone else it should be open.

It also reminds me of my mcdojo times when a instructor with no knowledge of grappling and a HUGE ego started giving certain females in his class "groundfighting instruction". PRIVATE instruction...

Its pretty common in many MA "families", to keep their superiority for as long as they can.

Did these withheld techniques make that much difference?

Well, that CAN at a certain point, heck, if you had never seen an "omoplata" you will think he is going for a triangle and next thing you know, bam, you are pretzel...

Yeah, but we all know the Gracies can't fight for shit.

I don't believe I've ever had a secret technique revealed to me. What are they like?

This is not directly related to the topic at hand, but I feel this is close enough, and worth sharing:

Someone once said "Two Karate guys can go at it for about 10 minutes in a parking lot, that's because Karate schools make good fighters, but we make good killers." to me.

Then I was told not to tell anyone that.

I've also been told that when I got good enough, I would be able to "kill three people in 10 seconds."

And a number of other things........................

the whole "dont show anybody this technique im teaching you" thing.
