Just some perspective from an email my instructor forwarded me. A friend of his he works with was asking about a good school near by...my instructor told him of some places and asked what he was looking for...
"Cool. I’d appreciate the info. Yes, this is just for the twins. Nothing serious, but rather just a place where they can get some exercise, some structured, disciplined instruction from a likable professional who enjoys helping kids from affluent and snobbish families, and where they can participate in a good, clean, wholesome environment in which they are allowed to beat the crap out of each other while someone else referees and deals with their sibling rivalry issues."

Sounds like they want new parents for the kids...
I dunno, it kept going back and forth for me.

Most parents do want new parents for their kids when looking for a martial arts school.

last part of that made me laugh. we have a brother/sister pair that i have to split up a lot. the parents are quite cool with me letting them "work it out" while on the floor (as long as i keep them relatively safe).

Yep. I suggested wrestling.
I figure they would get more out of that than most kids karate classes.

also, kids judo. finding good kids instructors from a decent school is hard.

Yeah, uhm, since we are the only Judo group for a hundred miles or so, that is not an option.

So you're saying I should go ahead with my "karate for kids" idea? =P

Find a good school that makes the kids work their tails off kicking and punching the bag and pads. They'll thank you some day because their punches and kicks will be fast.

Emevas, it's all good till the mom thinks she doesn't have to pay anymore... then it gets ugly. Scene it happen to too many instructors.

hehe, maybe I'll teach the kids a lil "ninjitsu" then; specifically the art of getting into Mommy's purse and getting the money to pay for their lessons.

I can say honestly, that it shocks me that parents bring kids to my school.I WOULD NEVER BRING A CHILD INTO A PLACE LIKE THAT, it's all grimey, bloodstains on the mat, the mildew in the bathroom is disgusting.
And frankly, I'm been described as "creepy" on many occasions.
Yet on a regular basis I got men and women driving up, introducing themselves and dropping off their kids to my tender mercies.
I would say maybe half of them give me a speil about "making a man out of him, cause he plays video games and watches TV all day".
I'm being honest here, I get it all the time. One guy that drops off hisa 13 and 14 year old often pulls my aside and tells me to hit his sons more often and harder because they are wussies.
I never pictured teaching kids would be like this.Of course I don;t teach any under 12, so with younger ones it might be different.
Excuse me for the tangent, but they say that kids mature faster today.
I find quite the opposite. The 12 -13 year olds I got look 9 and must sit around on a couch all day cause they can't do a single pushup or hit a bag for 3 minutes without almost passing out.
I was never an athletic kid, but jebus, at least I used to go outside and run around. These kids are all Jabber the huts in training.
