IBJJs- Go somewhere else to learn a sidekick 'cause you obviously have learned an ineffective method.
At least the way I do it the sidekick has all the body weight, as opposed to a fast kick perpendicular to the plane the body only has the force allowed by the mass of the kicking implement (foot/shin). Conversely the sidekick has the mass of the entire body (or at least leg and ass) traveling behind it at similar speeds.
What weighs more your leg or your leg and your ass?

The funny joke here would obviously be your leg and ass because your head's also in the equation, being up your ass and all. Of course I wouldn't say something like that, I'm far too courteous. It would be funny though.

IGBJJs,

YOu don't know a lot about side kick. There's more to it than just leg. I agree that a round kick is FAST, but there's no weight behind it, unless your foot weighs a lot. Side kick has the entire body weight behind it. Done properly (and not at a ridiculous height), it has more power. Using it in a fight is a totally different story. In a fight, I'd go with round kick, but I wouldn't expect it to cripple with the same intensity as a well placed side kick. I'd use it mainly because it's faster, and a few fast blows will end the fight as well as a lucky powerful one.

As to JKD and grappling, the ground was the one area Bruce recognized was weak in the JKD base arts. He lamented it, but he did die before the Gracies were around. Dan Inosanto and Paul Vunak ran across the Gracie's after Bruce's death, told all their guys to start doing BJJ immediately and strapped on white belts themselves.

Paul's funny to listen to when he talks about the desperation level of being trapped under Rickson or Royce or Royler and being willing to do ANYTHING to get out of the position.

no weight behind a round kick except the weight of your foot and/or leg? maybe YOU need to learn how to throw a round kick dipshit. I really can't believe people are as stupid as this, you guys are just messing with me, right?

Never seen anyone sidekick through a baseball bat before......by the way, breaking competitions are for fags too, so don't bother pointing that out.

IGBJJs,

How is your body positioned when you throw a roundhouse kick and how do you distribute your weight (we may be thinking of dissimilar techniques)?

Your whole body is traveling along the plane of a side kick, this adds mass. This is not the case in a roundhouse kick, as I know it. As I mentioned in another post the leg is moving perpindicular (mostly) to the body in a roundhouse, therefore it is carrying less mass.

I agree breaking competitions are pretty lame except as demonstrations of focus and in some cases cardio fitness (not 400lb guys breaking cement slabs). However, there is a sound reason behind breaking in testing or demonstrations of techniques. The reasoning isn't some feel good new age crap, rather a 1 inch pine board is roughly equivalent to a small bone (think clavicle or rib), 2 inch (or 2 1" boards with no spacers) is equivalent to a medium bone (humerus etc.) and 3 inches to a femur. Of course this is always or should aloways be done with the understanding that you're not ever going to have that clean of a target or that stationary and immovable of a target. Nonetheless it can be a valid demonstration of force deliverance.

The main problem with round kicks is it does do much in stopping someone's forward mass and a grappler will just run over you. Yes you might hit the guy but his mass is still moving forward. Its like throwing a round kick to a charging bull. Is it going to stop its forward motion? Of course not. I would rather throw a side kick or a front kick at someone than a round house.
The only problem with side kicks is that it leaves one of your sides very vulnerable for a take down. The problem with a front kick is that it exposes more of your body to strikes.

PEACE!

I think he's mainly just waiting for you to explain your statements about the sidekick and how its less powerful. You keep saying those of us who have explained why that's not the case are wrong, but you haven't said why.

No you haven't. You explained it once and keep repeating the same thing over again.

Your points were soundly refuted. Explain how those refutations are wrong, explain how you are right.
Your points were logically argued against and the opposing argument was logically explained. For you to validate your viewpoint do the same.
