Give me all the dirt you guys have on shootfighting, do you like ot or not. Is is better than NHB. How effective would it be in a street fight. please also put up some links to decent shootfighting sites that are in english.

Shootfighting is great. The only thing that stops it from being the ultimate martial sport for non proffesionals is its wacky ring escape rules. It allows a real lot of good effective techniques and I think they have open hand matches too which is still a great challenge but it lessens the chances that your going to get busted up.

I like shootfighting because it allows for multiple losses (grab the rope stand back up). I call in NHB light. There aren't that many good sights up these days and realize that some shootfighting matches are staged.
This is coming from the mouths of actual shootfighters.

what do you mean by ring escape rules?
Michael you may consider is NHB light but I prefer it because these guys don't spend 80% of the time on the ground which gets kinda boring.

You've got it all wrong Mysta, I loooove shootfighting more than NHB sometimes for that reason. You actually see more action. Shootfighting, you may grab the rope to escape instead of tapping.

Yeah thats what I also meant. Theres much more action. Now how about those throws I saw a pic of a shootfighter doing a throw that looked like something from the WWE.

Yup, the throws are real but some of them are fixed

Well even if it is fixed it is still way better than professional wrestling. I can't stand it, it is so fake and it is more like a soap opera nowadays.

Let me see. Shootfighting is a combination of submission wrestling and kickboxing. Strikes are severly limited in most cases to open hand strikes to the head and closed fist to the body. Only strikes to the body are allowed once both participants hit the ground. There are two main styles of shootfighting today which is the UWF and Pancrase. Both of which have worked bouts.

Shootfighting is basically MMA - lots of places would teach it as an MMA. Shootfighting in London - The non-fighters are trained in grappling mainly (some aiming for ADCC at best I think) and the "fighters" are trained in standard MMA (mauy Thai and boxing as well.)
Pancrase is also MMA, very similar to shootfighting (maybe the same.)
Shootfighting = Submission Grappling + Muay Thai - that's the general way to catergorized it.
Michael I think you're refering to old-rule Pancrase only: Shootfighting, as far as I know allows head shots (closed fist) and everything.
Pancrase also allows closed-fist headshots now.
Lots of guys in or who have been in UFC for instance have trained, or still train in shootfighting.

You GUYS have little to no knowledge on this subject. Shootfighting is made up of all types and styles of martial arts. it's a combo of striking and wrestling. Someone mentioned Pacrase, thats shootfighting and yes they use the rope escape. However, there are plenty of shootfights that dont recognize the rope escape. Pancrase is awesome. Its where the Shamrock boys got their start. As far as Pro wrestling goes, pancrase got started in japan by a pro wrestler who wanted to add more reality to the matches. Be careful about calling pro-wrestling "fake". The outcomes may be pre determined, but there is nothing fake about how those guys train, and the demands in the ring. Which leads me to another point about shootfighting. Why are the matches sometimes so controlled? its because they have to compete on a regular basis. You have to control the environment so that the competitors can sustain the injuries and be able to come back next week. This is true in the pancrase matches. pancrse actually has "seasons" so youre not going to see anything really gruesome. Hope this helps in youre geeky little attempt at being a "complete fighter".
