Qi Gong on Fight Science

Fight Science tackles Qi Gong. Put on your Iron Shirts. Please feel free to rip this apart from a science perspective. Knowing what little I know about the parlor tricks that the Shaolin preform, I would guess that the show scientists withhold leverage, pressure (ect) information to make everything seem amazing for TV. Thoughts?

If the people on that show who call themselves “scientists” really do have degrees, they should have them revoked. The stupidity angered me too much to even watch it all the way through.

What that show needs is a lot fewer pretend scientists, and one more James Randi.

I watched this episode with some friends.

The Iron Shirt bit made their jaws drop. I was unimpressed and explained the parlor trick.

There was much rage.

tl;dr: Bit of cartilage plus dull edge = INTERNAL POWAH!

Oh yeah. I've also seen a variation with an arrow shaft.

It was on the Penn & Teller Bullshit episode where they talked about "firewalking" (another fun trick)

I really enjoyed how they excused the flunky clearly pulling his bat-swing and yanking it away from the guy's stomach as soon as it made contact as the "incredible power of his chi repelling the attack."
