The boot thread!

looking at getting a pair of boots(water coming up to my ankles)
going for Mongrel boots because they are the only ones I have found that I can actually try on.

I am going to buy a higher version without the steel cap though.

Now I have never had a zipper on the side of my boot. Are they any good or a waste of time?

No one mentioned Oakleys? There expensive but if you have to hump the mountians they are great. Before I got some I kept reading that they are great but don't last long. Well both mine lasted the entire 14 month deployment and I still wear them now. Just did a 10 mile ruck with them last week and feet were fine. Also wore them for the "Prop Blast" shenanigans.

a lot of companies are making coyote versions of their boots, you just have to look online...and most don't have EGAs on them, but at least the color will blend in. Hell, who care's on patrol, I have friends who've worn Merrel's in AF.

...not saying you should buy those as you will have prepatrol inspections, find out what your unit is cool with.

You for Marines? We are authorized to wear them and if you are lucky to be in a generous SOC unit they will buy them for you.

I switched to them 2 months ago.

After hyperextending my big toe multiple times over the past 2 years from BJJ, my old Bellevilles weren't cutting it.

Prices on Oakley stuff are a lot better if you go through www.usstandardissue.com
