    Hell yeah! Hell no!

So its called Chang Karate....but the style is Korean

There is no boxing for a great distance and I just wanted a place to get more sparring in. (it sucks I live so far from philly)

There is quite a bit of krotty schools in my area and I know not all krotty is bad. So I thought I would look into it.

I come across Chang Karate and there is some promise here because they have day and evening classes, I usually work at night so this is good.

but then I see the style is Tang soo Do and Moo Duk Kwan.

Okay they probably just slapped the name karate on there to attract people. I spent some time at a good TKD school that did the same thing.

    Here is the website

    http://www.changkarateschool.com/index.php

my question is are these disciplines like TKD and focus primarily on kicks?

an update apparently Tang soo do does not like full contact from what I have read. but I did find an MMA school.

Tang Soo Do is a Korean version of karate, so there's nothing wrong about calling it karate.

    Beware of bullshit.

I took TSD back in the early '80s. There was medium to hard contact sparring at the end of each class, I'd do it agian if there was a school real close. I'm getting less picky as I get older.

When TKD and TSD schools first started popping up in number (mid to late 70s) most of them were advertised as "Karate". Later "Korean Karate" started showing up and eventually (as TKD became well known) most of the TKD schools started advertising themselves as TKD. Some of the TSD schools held on to the "Karate/Korean Karate" labels because a lot of people still don't know what TSD is.

IIRC Isn't Tang So Do Chuck Noris' original base art for striking? If so, I think you have your answer right there.

Our school is still referred to as Shin's Karate, even though we are a Chung Do Kwan TKD dojang.
