    It looks like there just wearing fencing masks, drover coats and work gloves.

    Long leather (?) flaps attached to the fencing masks to protect the rear of the head and neck.

    Given the speed of a whip cracker (popper), I'm surprised the judge can see when one of the "whip boxers" has been hit.

    just having a google search (and by the way you might also want to look at stock wips) looks like they do the whip boxing in show in Proserpine which is close to me when it comes around next I will have a look and see if I can get a vid.
