    Kosen Judo

Following a link form judoforum, I found a youtube channel of channel of modern Kosen Judo competitions. It's interesting to see how similar and different it is from BJJ -- driven, I think, by the lack of points and potential for victory by pin. As I understand it, these are team competitions so it's more important to not lose than to win. You win by ippon throw, pin, armlock or choke.

More interestingly, linked through the youtube channel is an attempt at a visual encyclopedia of techniques linking to demonstration and competition videos. It's not professional -- it looks like something one of the kids on the Kyoto team put together with a crappy camera (my Japanese really isn't good enough to read it without difficulty). The automatic translate from Google Chrome works fairly well, especially if you know the meanings of the judo technique names.

It still continues at the former Imperial universities in Japan one of which is Kyoto university from which these videos seem to originate.

There is a school not too far north of me that does kosen judo, mma and taijutsu. They have a fight team that seems to do fairly well, but I've dont know if there are kosen judo specific tournaments around, although I think they did send a team to grapplers quest.

Whats the name of the school? Is it a university? That sounds pretty awesome.

Is that the guy who says he was a student of Ishikawa Sensei?

Not saying he wasn't, I just remember his web page for some reason.
