Putting on gloves during a home invasion seems like a significant amount of time.

it depends what you would call a significant amount of time.. most guys who wake up to a sound would reach out and grab something before going downstairs. I can't see how the few seconds needed to put on a pair of gloves would make any difference.

Putting on gloves is not a gross motor function. Adrenaline plus fine motor control could be more complicated than you think.

Don't offensive weapons laws restrict what you can carry outside? If they're in your own house then you have all sorts of toys around, and I think you are within your rights to pick up anything to hand as long as it is necessary to defend yourself.

And if anyone asks, you can just tell them that you're about to ride. LOL. Those were my race gloves. Once when I was riding, this girl pulled up next to me in my lane and threw water at me from her car, and I responded by kicking her door with my boot. It took me a little bit too long to realize I had these cut-resistant, super knuckle hardcore gloves on my hands. It would have gone through car window no problem lol.

(on a side note, I still wonder what throwing water at me accomplished. It dried in 3 minutes as I kept riding. Its like flicking a big guy's ear when you are in line in prison.)
