Ditto what Mr.Machette said, make your own jerky and its an awesome anytime snack for your body. You can get away with low salt jerky as well, just means it wont last 3 months.
I have 10 pounds of beef sitting in the oven as we speak.
edit: Also when i'm not cutting weight i make fruit jerky, unbelievably tasty.

I was a jerky n00b until not so long ago, then I got sent some and actually enjoyed it.
It's not the most ideal post-training snack, but it's got its uses elsewhere as a snack on the go etc.
