I think this may require a separate thread if at all, since it seems to be taking much needed attention away from Mr. Alexander and co.

No, we all agree that regardless of they style or our experience, it isn't fighting Tai Chi.

5th Degree regardless of style is a high rank. All the problems that have been mentioned are basic things you learn in even McDojo Tai Chi. You do not learn these in health, wushu, or larping Tai Chi. Sadly, this is about the most static and poor Tai Chi I have seen.

The discussion helps the Tai Chi noob understand why the degree claims are questionable.

The William C Chen style is based on that of Cheng Man Ching, and does have the Needle at Bottom of the Sea + Fan Out technique. Still not part of CMC style, but there it is.
Na. He says that those people were *his (unnamed) teacher's* instructors.

    (bolding mine)
My principal studies included Cheng Man Ch’ing short form, traditional classical Yang style long form, fixed step and moving step push hands (or Tui Shou), Da Lu, San Shou, and Chi kung (or Qi Gong), as taught to my teacher by John Kells, William C Chen, Chu Gin Soon and Gia Fu Feng. I also learned Cheng Ting Hua style Ba Gua Zhang, an advanced Taoist martial art (developed specifically for use by professional bodyguards), as taught to my teacher by Rose Li.

My apologies. Will need to work on my reading comprehension. So again, that begs the question of why go through all the credentials of this instructor without naming him/her... just odd.

I think it also seems disrespectful to his teacher (if there is one), to list his teacher's teachers but not who actually taught it to him.
