Perhaps because people are less likely to question them:

When I did the chun most people seemed to enjoy striking overly hard in passive drills, even to the groin. Another classic is where they do some sort of takedown and then an over elaborate and aggressive series of strikes to the downed guy, just to show how badass they are. I almost felt sorry for the stooge in the OP videos but he's a mug for putting up with it.

I did like the fruity backwards dance to escape a bear hug in the second video though.

so hurting the opponent is somekind of power demonstration then?
Good lord that's retarded. Imagine if bjj players would go around and finish submissions just to show how hard they are..

    This.

I've seen it a bit in Aikido videos on YouTube. Flying ukes are still being flying ukes - but the tori is also trying to slam them through the floor *hard style* or clothesline their heads off.

Or they're doing their thing outside without mats. **** just got real, yo.

Whenever my old TKD instructor would see someone hitting hard and being overzealous in the compliant drills he would say to them "Relax, calm down. Enjoy life."

Also, how's about when instructors are demonstrating jointlocks on compliant partners, the guy taps - but the instructor goes ahead and cranks it anyway?

I've seen that more times than I care to remember on YouTube.

That happened to me when I tried out a local Bujinkan dojo. I actually had to yell "stop", which attracted the attention of the whole class, to get the cock snap to let me go.

I think that was my third, and last, Booj class.
