    Sit-up guard

I've recently started exploring sit-up guard against standing opponents. I took a private with my teacher to cover the basics and a handful of techniques to get me started. At this point, I'm looking to explore some new options and am on the lookout for some good resources on sit-up guard to get a deeper knowledge of the position.

    Books, DVDs, youtube videos etc.

    Thank you.

Would you indulge me by elaborating on that?

    Absolutely:
Sit up guard serves no real purpose. It's more situational than anything else. Demanding this position will lose you tournaments because you're setting yourself up for easy guard passes. The only time I would ever use this maneuver is no gi advanced level. Don't worry about this if you're below purple. I can pull of leg locks, triangles, and armbars from this position but I've got many years experience with this.

This suggests we might be thinking of two different things. I'm talking about the position that tori assumes at around 0:10 into this clip:

Please don't mind if I continue peppering you with questions...

Why would you recommend only using this position no gi?

Give me a grip to work with in this position? Please my friend you need freedom of movement to get it to work. This is a version of deep half guard. I work on it as a joke to my lower students. Not advised unless you really have a lot of outs.
