Neil Gaiman's American Gods book was okay.

To me though, it seemed to be Sandman v11 (the 10 volume comic series that made him famous) which often featured old gods in todays world.

A book not to many people heard about that I thought was good was the Initiate Brother. It's two books in the series. Very good stuff. It's a fictional asian world with monks, and swordsman. Seems more japanese than anything though.

For a book series I also recommend the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. Very good stuff. I can picture Bruce Campbell playing that character. The main character is a wizard/private eye. Battles the usual set of supernatural baddies. But still a good read and funny too.

'American Gods' was WAY overrated. Another novel of Gaiman's, 'Stardust', which I read was absolutely awesome, though...

But I don't know what those have to do with martial arts...esp. AWFUL martial arts in books.

For that stuff you should look at Eric van Lustbader. The depiction of martial arts is below Ashida Kim level, and he is one of the worst writers ever to have been printed on paper; I can write better than that...

Check out Mr van Lustbader's debut bestseller (there is no God) 'The Ninja', for example.

Oh, the Ninja books are fun. I mean, yeah, they're awful but greatly entertaining.

Ah well, I'm probably just a bit jealous that talentless "#¤%#%#¤%¤"%¤¤%¤#¤#¤#¤#s like Van L. get paid a lot of money for their "#¤&¤%&#%&#¤&#¤&#¤ing 'books' ;).
