    I meant they don't do anything that's likely to cause permanent injury or death. Of course they're trying to knock each other out.

    Do they box each others' ears, blowing out eardrums, in UFC? No. Do they punch in the throat? No. Do they kick in the balls? No. Do they bite? No. Do they jam thumbs in eye sockets? No.

    That the sport of MMA is different than the ass-kicking of MMA, was my point.

    That's a load of crap. Kendo has got nothing to do with taking the best of what works. In fact you can argue the exact opposite, that a lot of what we do has no hope of working in a real fight with real swords.

    If you are truly interested in learning how kendo came about, take the time to read this.

    That's why I don't do MMA. I fear the knees to the chest too much.

    I know you're having a laugh at my expense, but it is possible, is it not?

    Break a rib, send it into a lung or the heart, cause internal bleeding etc.

    These are less likely to happen at the professional level because they've toughened their bodies up with training.

    I'd be very much afraid to have someone with Bas Rutten's build and skill knee me in the chest with all they've got.

    Would it kill me? With modern medical attention, no, probably not. Would I have a miserable couple of weeks? Yeah, quite possibly.

    This thread has just gone from silly bullshit to train wreck status.
    The fool thinks himself immortal,
    If he hold back from battle;
    But old age will grant him no truce,
    Even if spears spare him.
