I feel that kendo is unrealistic, because it only includes the weapon part of fighting, but what would happen if 2 kendo guys fought without weapons? What kind of unarmed techniques would be best?

See, this is why threads like this are silly.

I dunno. There's shinai-assisted throws and chokes with the other guy's bogu, but they're not allowed in tournaments, so not too many people train in them anymore.

I don't see it as silly.

MMA has taken all the best techniques from the martial arts of the world, discarded the bullshit, and improved what works.

MMA can be used to kill, it's just generally not, since that's not how killing's done these days. Unlike Kendo, it's not just a game played with swords.

Put a Kendo practitioner up against a real samurai, and lets see who would win.

MMA is a sport, but it's not just a sport.

I'm asking if there was no such thing as guns and bows, what would be the ideal weapons that an MMAer would train to use? Is that such a silly question?

I have ideas--like the weapons used in Eskrima, the best sword designs (rapiers and katana) etc., but not being knowledgeable with the details of MMA, I don't really know.

I have enjoyed the silly replies though. One of them made me cry laughing--well done, sir.

    Huh?

Kendo has more to it than the sparing. Sport side of kendo is a game played with swords yes, but so is every sparring side of any martial art that has rules. If you never spar you will never prepare your self for the real situation that is what Bullshido preaches, right? How else are you going to do that for a MA that uses swords.

    Its a sport.

Why has no one posted a Dog Brothers Video yet?

A sport where a single punch can give you a concussion, knee to the chest can kill you, and you can choke someone to death in a hold.

You do know they hold back in the UFC, don't you?

What do you mean by hold back? You better not mean they are not trying their hardest to knock each other out.

The only other explanation is that you mean they respect the tap, and if that's what you define as holding back you are only slightly less stupid than thinking the above.

Kendo did this as well, only the world they were drawing from was the samurai sword world which doesn't really extend out of Japan.
