I think if GSP could choose one weapon to bring to the cage it would have to be an Epic Beard Man.

what you've been reading so far is a bunch of fan-boys jokingly avoiding the issue, as MMA is a sport and doesn't train weapons.
That's one of it's major weaknesses.
"Judo is a study of techniques with which you may kill if you wish to kill, injure if you wish to injure, subdue if you wish to subdue, and, when attacked, defend yourself" - Jigoro Kano (1889)
***Was this quote "taken out of context"?***

"The judoist has no time to allow himself a margin for error, especially in a situation upon which his or another person's very life depends...."
~ The Secret of Judo (Jiichi Watanabe & Lindy Avakian), p.19

"Hope is not a method... nor is enthusiasm."
    ~ Brigadier General Gordon Toney

What weapons do you think would be relevant in today's world? I mean, since it's a sport and not a self-defence program, would you suggest knives, baseball bats etc?

Relevant self defense weapons in your average "1st world" country ?

What ever gives you even a slight edge and doesn't get your ass throw in the slammer for using.

I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

Which is basically my point. MMA is a sport, and if you're going to teach weapons it may as well be traditional ones since modern weapons (knives and guns) can't be trained in the same way an MMA fighter can.

And actual self-defence weapons are more like pepper spray anyway.
