    Bartitsu and historical fencing

A short article describing the links between E.W. Barton-Wright's Bartitsu and Captain Alfred Hutton's revivals of historical fencing, circa 1900.

But during the year 1901, when the Club was a hive of activity, one might have signed up for classes in recreational rapier or longsword fencing alongside jiujitsu, boxing, wrestling and walking stick defence. It must have been quite the scene.
I sighed when I read this. One club with jiu-jitsu, wrestling, boxing, cane fighting & longsword fencing. That's a place where I would have very much liked to have trained.

    You and me both.

As Bartitsu is being revived there are a couple of clubs that are working with historical fencing groups, but they are few and far between.
