So where is the bone of your forearm?

There are two bones in the forearm, the radius on the side where your thumb is, and the ulna on the other side.

I meant where is the forearm in relation to their leg. Is it on their calf, on their achilles, on the bottom of their foot?

    J-Lau,
It's on the achilles. You need to make sure you really pull the foot up high, and tight under your armpit. When you lean back it will go on the foot, rather than just being pain on the achilles.

What youve just described, is the PROPER way to do an achilles lock, straightenning the toes so you can really attack the Achilles. People just butcher the Achilles most of the time and do it up way too high.

In randori, if I feel someone securely get that hold, I'll tap (I'm not going to mess with leg/ankle/foot locks), but how much leeway do you have before an actual injury occurs, as opposed to the thing just hurting a lot? I know, in theory, with the armbar, you usually have some "clicks" as a check when the hyperextension occurs. Is there any similar kind of check with the ankle lock?

Ask Osiris I usually tap too late.

Apparently your ankle shouldn't click like your elbow!
