If you're going to teach a counter to a move, you should have a firm grasp on the mechanics of the move you're countering.
Shut the hell up and train.

If Hollywood has taught me anything, it's that one training montage is all you'll ever need.

That, and Tom Cruise is definitely not gay.

This is basically what I thought of when I read this thread. OP's a liar, if you ask me.

Chances are he was just teaching a defense against a plain-ole hands-gripping-throat choke from a standing position, not anything technical. A lot of striking TMAs have basic defenses vs. schoolyard-type **** like that, headlocks, and bearhugs. It's part of tradition (the few moves I learned that addressed this sort of thing were straight out of kata, though obviously not learned via kata, the point is they weren't add-ons, but were in the syllabus being taught since the beginning of the style) and not the same as people who have no grappling experience teaching someone how to escape mount or stuff takedowns in the post-MMA martial arts landscape. (That being said, I can see how the former could be a slippery slope to the latter.)

While I don't think a 16 year-old should be solo-teaching period, I don't consider what he was doing as anti-grappling proper. As to whether it's b.s. or not, that depends on whether it actually works and how they're training it....

Yeah, I was figuring it was your standard rear headlock self-defense thingy and thought antigrapple was funnier, but your description was more on-topic.
