I used to think Bruce Lee's one inch punch was supernatural. Now I think it's pretty cool -- but not supernatural.

This is pretty much textbook boxing mechanics. Put pressure on your hind leg, pivot your hips, and swing your shoulders. There's little power in the arm -- it is just the conduit.

As for practicality? I've seen Western Boxers do this on non-compliant partners -- it's useful for keeping people at a distance. Jabs are more effective, though.

    Yes.

This is why I always make the distinction between WC and Xingy concerning the 1 inch punch. Jabs vs. Short power and the 1-inch punch are basically two different things. It isn't about keeping people at a distance in xingyi or boxing. It is a short punch, executed at close distance, to clear space. Depending on where and when it lands it can drop someone.

No, it isn't magical and BL's punch was a demo with zero applicability.

KOs from 1 inch punches happen all the time -- just not usually from the distance in Lee's demo. Most of the time I've seen it, they're inside hooks.

Lee's 1 inch punch looks cool -- but jabs can be just as hard, aren't as telegraphed, and cover more distance.

Developing the ability to generate power from a short distance = good
Attempting to KO an opponent with a 1 inch punch in a fight = bad

In the chun. I honestly had no clue it had fucked up the meaning of the one inch punch this bad. Either that or you were explained the thing really weird.

Jabs can use the one-inch punch mechanics as well as the hook. I'm trying to figure out how you were taught.

No offense, but it just sounds really weird. Separate the demo form the one inch punch.

I think there's a miscommunication happening here. I'm not talking about the chun. I've realized the chun is junk.

Lee's form doesn't look like the chun to me whatsoever either.

I have seen one inch punches in western boxing, however.

EDIT: Here's an example. The way I was taught, you keep your arm parallel to the ground and don't move your elbow when you hook. Instead, you put pressure on your hind leg, pivot your hips, and swing your shoulders.
