It's fine. As long as you're not pretending that learning kata will make you 'deadly' then you're not going to annoy anyone. I have a friend who practices karate for the same reasons you want to. Although if you can't find a JJJ school that does a lot of kata, I would recommend karate or kendo. Though I've never tried it, kendo looks good fun.

In addition to contacting the folks over at koryu.com you could also check out e-budo. Finding a good (legit) school of Japanese Jujutsu is going to be difficult. Not only do many of the people who practice such systems stay off the radar, but sometimes it can be difficult to actually get the opportunity to train with them once you do locate where they are.
I'm in the same boat. There's a branch of Kashima Shinryu (kenjutsu and jujutsu) near me, headed by a Menkyo Kaiden holder and I can't train with them because it's too far away to drive to each night and it's located on a university campus and they don't allow non-students access.
I was also invited to train with another school of Japanese jujutsu/bugei out in California. Unfortunately I live on the East Coast. So, that didn't work out.
Good luck!Last edited by FourT6and2; 8/22/2010 12:08pm at .

Please refer to www.USbudokan.com and give them a call. See for yourself. Nothing to loose. They've been under the radar for a long time but finally available due to new management.
good luck.Last edited by Ariza Shihan; 7/16/2011 12:47am at .
