I appologize Hugo, I had responded to MrJ's post from my phone and hadn't see yours yet. I am more interested in Koryu Ju Jutsu. From what I know the Gendai is more or less Goshin or self defense oriented. If I can't find a Koryu school I wouldn't scoff at it though.
Lindz - I did a bit of Judo when I was younger and sadly the only local club (yes club it's all sport oriented here) is a part of a larger MMA facility which I would like to stay away from. As for Karate, I always wanted to get back involved in a traditional Okinawan style school but my old dojo is the only one that fits this category locally. There are no Goju or Uechi-Ryu schools locally. Well the only Goju school prides itself on not being "traditional". -

There's other styles of traditional karate that do those things as well, if you haven't looked into them.
Isshin-ryu, Shito-ryu, Shorin-ryu, Wado-ryu (I think), and a couple others I'm not thinking of at this moment. I kinda doubt you would have kobudo around there, but check around for that too

Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu on Long Island... Is there anyway?
