Washington DC Metro Throwdown Interest?
I can get a decent sized gym with a huge matted area connected to a half a cage. There's also an enclosed striking room that's half mat and half hardwood. The gym is well lit, nice A/C system, lockers, showers, etc.
I would enlist the supervision of a few instructors to keep things safe and they will establish rules and such.
This gym is in Rockville, MD 20852 (Metro: Twinbrook - Red Line)
If there's enough interests, I can start the ball rolling and start updating this thread with the specifics such as the mat fee, rules, safety equipment requirements, etc.
I might be interested. I am just a TSD noob with zero grappling though.
Hey, are we trying again? Count me in. Completely out of shape, haven't practiced for sh*t in years, but I want, I want, I want!
And I've been wanting to check out the school I think you're talking about for a long, long time now anyway.
Can we have a feeble old geezers division? That's definitely what I am now, gettin' damn close to 50 with no regular training. But some friendly face-pounding would be GREAT! (Yes, even when it's me getting pounded.)
that guy nobody really knows...
depending on when it came together, I'm in the area.
The gym is Yamasaki Academy, btw. www.grappling.com
I'm thinking the end of August 28th or Sept 4th of 2010. Saturday after 1pm is good. Or Sunday at 11am. On Sunday, there's a 2pm BJJ class that starts out with 30-60 mins of sparring (after a light warm up) and I'm pretty sure the instructor will let people hop in to roll....so there will be plenty of action for grappling people. This class has a lot of White Belts. Then the strikers can move into the striking room.
There will be instructors there to keep things safe and to also do some coaching if people want it. I'll try to get this guy as one of them: http://www.youtube.com/dpeclat
As usual, with sparring, you'd want to agree on the terms/rules of how hard etc. you want to go, what's allowed, etc. with the guy you're going up against.
If you're interested, I'd need to get a count...along with your height, weight, age, style(s), experience, what kind of sparring you want to do, etc.
The more people we get, the more fun. So if there's not enough, we may have to push it back and give it a little more time.
Hey I'd be down for this, as long as it's happening after August, so Sept. 4th would be fine.
I'm in, pretty much any weekend works for me.
style(s): Judo orange belt, a little muay thai
experience: Three years of judo, a few months of muay thai, boxing club in college many years ago. I know how to get punched in the face
what kind of sparring you want to do, etc.: I want a throwdown fist, whatever that requires.
Keep me updated, I'm in the northern VA area, so I can make it
height 5'10" weight: 200 plus age: 29 style: Judo black belt
experience: 6 yrs of Judo, some jits (not enough to make it worth it), I've been away from the mat since Feb (when I moved to VA), so I'm outta shape and itching for some grappling.
Keep me posted guys
