Just keep in mind that belief in God doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with blind faith, anti-science fanaticism, or unwillingness to see reason.

No, it's the ability to realize that Gods existence or non-existence has precisely fuckall to do with science.

    Depends who you ask.

The black magick occult people start you on Zen meditation and then lucid dreaming. Eventually you start talking to aliens and masturbating onto a cup of your own or someone else's blood.

The New Age people give you peyote and watch what happens.

The Druids wear funny robes and run about the woods while they argue which god of fertility will give you the hardest boner.

And then there's the people who worship Cthluhu, Lizard People, and think Freemasons are a group of weirdos controlling business.

Their deal is to brainwash crazy chicks so that they can get laid.

edit: If you think that previous passage was a joke, it isn't.

I studied Chinese medicine formally, but never completed the coursework nor attended the needed clinic time in mainland China. I stopped attending classes sortly after a course instructor introduced 'energy healing' as a way to increase revenue.

Traditional Chinese medicine includes, quite completely, the idea of the primal energy called 'chi' or 'Qi'.

TCM is an OLD way of looking at how the body works and its relationship with the world and is very tied up with spiritualism and religion. There is a practical and useful peice of it and there is an impractical mystical peice to it. As something that is one of the first codified systems of understanding how the human body works, it has all the problems that old and first type of things have.

Here is a snippet from my own notes on 'Qi':

    Qi is what Qi does:

    1 - Activation
    2 - Warming
    3 - Defense
    4 - Containment
    5 - Transforming

Each organ has specific functions of creating and storing or directing flow of Qi.

Qigong practice, in my experience, is meant to work these aspects of healthy Qi in the body.

Descriptions of warmth are common and 'signs of Qi'. One instructor I had suggested that proper Qi development would show by slowing or stopping sweating (containment) and also in proper bowel movements and deeper more relaxed breathing. Each of these things associate with what Qi does.

Proper Qi flow protects against external evils, such as 'wind' and 'damp' which are associated with illness in Traditional Chinese Medical practice.

Sadly, I have been unable to levitate, throw Qi balls or catch bullets in my teeth. I once had the experience of throwing someone during spar without touching them, but I believe that had more to do with conditioning of my spar partner than any mystical power I had developed.

    ---End Snippet---

There are many ways that a person can lose sight of reality and begin to delude themselves into the fantasy realm.

TCM was and IS an old, primitive and incomplete way of looking at health in the human body and in part a description of how the world works. Some people can find use in it and are very happy with the results.

My experience tells me that needles and massage can certainly help with pain management, but are not necessarily the way to go if you have a real medical problem.

Herbalism offers some better solutions and some of the pharmacopia of chinese medicine is quite valid for its specific application.

As for some of the more outlandish claims....really? Did you watch the guy who convinced himiself he could throw people without touching them get his butt handed to him by a young black belt? That old master really DID have the right skillset to do well in that fight, he simply didnt use it in favor of his delusion. A delusion he taught to his students and they reinforced right back to him.

My reaction to the statement : What do you guys think?

Let Qi be what it is, and dont make it into something its not. Avoid people who claim to be able to knock people out without touching them.

Best of luck in all things,

    Rob

I did do some chi training with a guy who did exactly the brainwash crazy chick to get laid route but I thought he was just making stuff up as he went along.
I thought what I did was the exeption. Aparently not.
    Good times.

Making stuff up as you go along is integral to the training.

ESPECIALLY if you want to get laid.
