    1911 .45 or Sig 226 9mm

I'm not a big handgun guy. I'm considering picking up one of these two pistols. A springfield Armory 1911-a1 pistol or a Sig 226. Do you guys have any feedback or input on them or which I should pick up?

Both are good. You really can't go wrong with a 1911 (Colt is great but I prefer Kimber model)
So what do you want a 9mm or 45?

Get the sig p229 in either .357 sig or .40 cal
    Or a kimber in .45

    Both are great sidearms.

9mm is very cheap to shoot. Very. And take that into consideration. Practicing a lot with a 9mm vs just some with a .45 makes a difference. I personally don't buy into the rhetoric that .45's knock people down instantly and 9mm just bounce off.

That being said I would spend the money, get a Sig 229 .40

There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice.

This post aproved by the Bigger is better assosiation :oP

Yes 100% right don't get a .45 if your not going to spend the money to put 1000's of rounds down range. same for the 9mm. Doesn't matter how great of balistics the round yuor shooting has if you can't hit your target.

The 9mm being cheaper to practice with makes sense of course. Ideally I'd like to pick up a 9mm for Mrs Guilty Spark to shoot.

I'm learning towards the 45 for the more stopping power (people breaking in, bears- realise thats a whole new debate).

Realistically I won't get much time to practice shooting with either so the price difference between calibers won't really come into effect.
Also if memory serves you can get .22cal conversion kits for 1911's too can't you?

My xmas list is as follows
Glock 17, sig 226, Colt 1911, maybe an HK USP
M14 (converted to an M-21) and an AR10 kinda done up like the SR25

A friend of mine had a saying he got from his instructor. It went something like, "Caliber is negated after the second shot."
I guess it means that the person really isn't going to care what size the round is after you shot him once.
